Spanish Market in Elda
Come Along and Experience Local Spanish Markets

Elda’s Saturday Street Markets: Where Fresh Fruit Meets Fabulous Bargains
If you're knocking about in the Alicante area and fancy doing something a bit more authentically Spanish than sipping sangria on the seafront (not that we’re judging), then let us introduce you to one of my favourite little Saturday rituals: the street markets in Elda.
Yep — every Saturday morning ( also on Tuesdays ), Elda turns into a buzzing little hive of locals, bargain hunters, and curious wanderers, all flocking to the two main markets: Virgen de la Cabeza Street Market and El Mercado Ambulante de San Francisco. These aren't just markets — they’re mini adventures.
When & where’s the magic happening?
Both markets pop up bright and early every Saturday from around 8 AM to 2 PM — so yes, it’s worth setting an alarm (coffee helps). You’ll find one stretching along Calle Virgen de la Cabeza and the other over on Calle San Francisco. They’re not miles apart, so you can easily do both and still have time for a cheeky tostada and café con leche.
Fruit, veg & proper bargains
First things first — the fruit and veg are unreal ( white chicken eggs are so fresh and tasty when boiled ! ) Like, supermarket produce just doesn’t compare. We’re talking plump tomatoes, oranges that actually smell like oranges, herbs so fresh you’ll feel like you’ve got a garden in your bag. All straight from local farms, and the prices? We think very reasonably priced.
Then there’s the clothes stalls — and listen, don’t go expecting high fashion, but if you’re into picking up a cheap hoodie, beach dress, or pair of funky trainers, you're in the right place. It’s the kind of place where you go in for lettuce and somehow come out with leggings. No regrets.
Why it’s more than just a market
It’s not just about the shopping — it’s the whole vibe. The chatter in Spanish, the old ladies haggling like pros, the smell of churros wafting through the air, and that random bloke selling flamenco CDs like it’s 1998.
Whether you're a local expat, a tourist, or just someone who enjoys a good nose around street stalls, Elda’s markets are a cracking Saturday morning out ( in our opinion! tho test it out yourselves! ) Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to explore a town that’s full of charm and totally underrated, Elda as well as Petrer, both next to each other.
So grab a basket, wear comfy shoes, and prepare to fall in love with Elda… one chicken egg and polyester jumper at a time.
